Kuro Sapsucking Slug (Costasiella kuroshima), Dauin, Negros, Philippines Costasiella kuroshima, aka Shaun the Sheep, is a a shell-less opisthobranch gastropod mollusk that spends its whole life on a same alga and can reach the maximum size of 7mm (1/4 in.) It has the amazing ability of 'internal photosynthesis' : the alga Shaun feeds on is eaten normally, and partially digested, leaving the chloroplasts intact. The plastids are maintained within the host, temporarily continuing photosynthesis and benefiting the predator. This phenomenom is called kleptoplasty.
